Introduction:
Artbeat is the new way to reinvent Museum visit's experience.
This new experience is based on utilising IOT as a means to detect and track a person in order to offer an option to live a great museum visit.
Thanks to ARTBEAT, you get a personnalized visit, a new group experience, get an experience with all the packaging included with the museum visit and all of this by optimizing your visit time.
Technology used:
Internet of things is an up and rising technology tool that is utilised in applications such as smart homes, smart retail etc. It can be described as the communication between different objects.
In order to understand in a simple manner how this is done, please watch this video
How we thought of the idea?
Our topic: Rethink museum visit for families using IOT.
As we googled for the most common issues faced by families in Museums, we realised there were two major issues:
As even the biggest art enthusiast may not want to visit pieces of an era or style he isn't interested in.
We came accross this idea as a part of our exploration process.
Please visit our
Mindmap to know more about this.
What did we do with the idea?
We decided to create a prototype of the idea as a mobile application. We chose this particularly because of the feasability to use it while walking through the museum.
We used an application called Adobe XD on which we created a wireframe first in order to create a clarity in flow. Then we further polish it to create a prototype of the intended application/website.
It is easy to use and looks as shown in the image:
How to use the application:
You can take a look at our prototype over here.
Once you open the application the following steps take place:
- You enter your details including age, gender and what you expect from the visit.
- You will be given a device similar to fitbit which can track your heart rate and movement
- As you move through the paintings, the app takes note of the genre and displays. This is done by utilising geolocalisation
- As the device detects the heart rate, and compares it to the database for people within your gender and age to determine if you like the piece or not, it will show in the form of the Heart symbol.
- After passing through a few genres, it will determine the perfect itenary for you which will make sure you will only visit the pieces which will be enjoyed.
- In the end, it will display your profile details including what genre is your favourite, and the most favourite pieces you loved. This might even help you decide on a souvenir.

Geolocation
Artbeat uses geolocation to allow you to have a better experience of museums with your children. It uses geolocation also to localize your children if they are lost, which can happen sometimes ! For that, our app is honored to be able to use the latest Google Maps geolocation service.
And the diagram on the right is originally taken from a
Research gate publication which describes a
Smart Museum
We could pair up with other applications in order to make the application be a single guide to the entire museum.
